Grunge-autistic movement
Manifesto
With sarcasm, strategic swearing and, under every point, what we actually mean. Irony doesn't land for everyone, and nobody gets left out here because of that.
Warning: this site contains autism.
Side effects: songs, pictogram booklets and a habit of explaining everything twice. The cause? According to the family, the vaccine. According to science, no. According to me: stop hunting for someone to blame for something that isn't a crime.
Literally: Vaccines don't cause autism; it's been studied in millions of children. People are born autistic. It isn't damage someone has to be blamed for.
"It's a trend."
Sure, buddy, the oldest trend in the world: being misunderstood since before the internet existed. So trendy we went generations without a single damn like.
Literally: There are more diagnoses because there's more information and the criteria got broader, not because it's trendy. Autistic people have always existed.
"You don't talk or act autistic."
Thanks, I worked really hard on it. Years of rehearsal, unpaid and unapplauded. What you didn't see is the bill: it arrives at night, flat on the bed, not wanting to talk to anyone.
Literally: There's no single way to "look" autistic. Speaking fluently or making eye contact doesn't mean someone isn't.
Masking: the talent nobody applauds.
Smile in place, eye contact measured with a ruler, joke memorized. An Oscar-worthy performance in a movie nobody asked for, shot every single day. The show ends when you get home, and that is when the whole set falls down.
Literally: Masking is hiding autistic traits to fit in. It burns a lot of energy, exhausts you and keeps many people undiagnosed for years.
Late diagnosis: better late than "you never noticed".
The paper arrives and suddenly your whole life has subtitles. Thanks, system, only took you a few decades. It's not that we didn't exist before: the radar was calibrated for one kind of kid.
Literally: Today autism is understood to show up in many ways, which is why more and more adults get diagnosed. Finding out late still counts, and explains a lot.
Hyperfocus: how this band was born.
"Let it go, it's an obsession." Yes, and that obsession produced a channel, a band, a thirteen-song record and this site. What did your healthy hobby produce?
Literally: Hyperfocus is diving deep into something you love. The No Names was born that way, out of the first project, Hyperfixate Neural Feral.
"Autism is a superpower."
Uh-huh. A superpower that fries you because of a fluorescent light and a damn buzzing fan. Weird that Marvel never bought the rights.
Literally: Autism isn't a superpower or a tragedy. It has real challenges and good things; romanticizing it hides the support many people need.
"AI stole your art."
Funny, yes. I wrote the lyrics, sang the voice, checked thirteen songs one by one… and the AI didn't show up to a single session. Shameless.
Literally: AI is a tool. The idea, the lyrics, the voice and the decisions belong to a person.
The broken ego.
What hurt wasn't the art: it was watching someone else do it faster. Relax, talent doesn't run out because someone else uses it. Cry to your ego, not to the tool.
Literally: Other people creating faster with new tools doesn't take value away from your work. Art isn't a speed race.
The gurus.
"Drop ten albums a month with this secret prompt, link in bio." Thanks, guru. Here one record takes months, out of love and stubbornness. The secret is there's no secret, and you don't give a shit about music as long as there are clicks.
Literally: Be wary of anyone selling magic formulas. Making something meaningful takes time, judgment and work, with or without AI.
Everyone picks their volume.
Too much glitch made you dizzy? There's a button called Calm. It isn't for the weak: it's for people who know what they need, which is more than most can say.
Literally: Turning down the stimuli isn't weakness. You can switch between Noise and Calm whenever you want; the music is the same.
Overexplaining is allowed.
This manifesto has an explanatory note on every point. Yes, on purpose. No, we will not apologize.
Literally: Explaining too much isn't a flaw: it's care for detail and for making sure nobody is left not understanding.
No name, still a voice.
We are called The No Names because nobody expected us. Spoiler: we showed up anyway, with distortion.
Literally: You don't need permission or fame to make your art.
Non-profit.
Business plan: none. If royalties ever come in, we will figure out where they go; for now the only profit is someone saying "I'm not the only one".
Literally: The project isn't about making money. If the songs earn royalties, how they're used will be decided and announced here.
Join in.
No membership card, no fee, no course in three easy payments. To join the grunge-autistic movement all you need is to make your own damn noise.
Literally: Anyone can join by making their own thing, their own way, at their own pace.
Signed: The No Names, and anyone who wants to make their own damn noise. You're not too much here.
